B.I.O.N.I.C. Golf (Believe It Or Not, I Can) was created under the belief that golf is a journey. Golf is a physical challenge and a test of mental and emotional control. The program is designed to help people understand that each personal struggle with golf, much like obstacles in everyday life, is a circumstance that can be overcome with dedication and positive reinforcement. Martha Sue’s goal is to fill the greens by helping people have fun with golf no matter their physical disability and instilling in them the "I Can" attitude.
In 1990, LPGA member Martha Sue Yeary founded B.I.O.N.I.C. Golf as a program to help people with disabilities play golf and overcome challenges in their everyday life. Martha Sue has partnered with Sail Ho Golf Course to provide instruction to people with disabilities so they can enjoy an active lifestyle while overcoming their physical and mental challenges. Sail Ho Golf Course is unique in that it specifically accommodates those with disabilities.
Martha Sue developed the program after teaching a stroke victim to hit balls with one arm. Watching the lady adjust her golf game changed Martha Sue’s life, and she has since helped hundreds of students through programs which specialize in specific physical disabilities. She has found alternative ways to affectively swing a golf club according to the specific physical disability.
